Pblett Day

WOW!  I didn't expect you all to sign-in, but so glad you did and made the appropriate additions to my list entitle: My Blog Buddies.

I still don't know who stops in from Corner Brook, Newfoundland, or Owatonna, MN, or Flushing, MI.
=====================
We have had a day of gray, freezing mist.  Not exactly rain, but mist that freezes a coat of ice on everything.  I am NOT going out there, even though my cats only have one day's dry food left.  Hopefully tomorrow will be more stable for driving my car?
==============

MLK Day.  Looking back, I appreciate the man more and more and personally, I think President Obama undid in eight years what Dr. King fought and died for.

I thought we were coming along pretty good with our civil rights for everybody policy and now--it feels (to me) like we are much worse off than we were in the mid 50 & 60's.

I thought that this President would do so much for his race.  I could see him bringing real hope and change for them, but all I see is more hatred--mostly from the Blacks.  He didn't speak to them of peaceful protests.  Non-violent protests.  He rather gave them an entitlement that they could riot, and kill and do whatever they wanted and he certainly wouldn't chastise them.  Sometimes I even felt like he was encouraging them.  He is no Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for sure.

I have always had great respect for John Lewis.  He marched with Dr. King.  He took a lot of abuse in Dr. King's non-violent protests.  It seemed, finally we were all becoming aware of the injustices and working together to correct them.

Now, that same man wants a protest at the inauguration?  Al Sharpton wants a violent protest.

Back in the day, I joined Jesse Jackson's Rainbow Coalition.  I was even for  Affirmative Action, until it bit my own daughter.  She graduated 1st in her class.  I was divorced with low income and she couldn't get one stupid college grant, because she wasn't Black or Latino.  Reverse discrimination.

Can you even imagine if "people of non-color" had protested at President Obama's inauguration?  We would have been called "racists, Nazi's, White Supremacist's" and arrested, if we weren't shot first.

I just wonder who the real racists are nowadays.

  2. Soon-to-be ex-Pres. Obama is confused. Is he white or is he black? Black skin, white attitude? He didn't know who to help so he helped no one. Well, he did help himself with all those expensive vacations and usage of Air Force One etc. But one thing's for certain...he knew how to stir the pot. I blame him 100% for the way things are today. what a mess.

  4. I'm a some what worried about our next President and entire nine yards. But we had a governor in Idaho Phil Batt. But he did surprise me on how well he did. I only wish best for our country.

    My dad was born in Jackson Michigan and still have relatives around Niles.

  6. Judy, so pleased with my orchids as they add sunshine to the dreary days. I use an orchid spray that you spray on the leaves of my orchids. Water once a week with a cup that came with one orchid (probably about 3 or 4 ounces(every Thursday
    and then spray leaves with this spray. I will post an image on my journal. Everyone comments on the orchids when visiting, they like where they are with mixed morning sun and then no sun. Most people water their plants to frequently.

  8. I never looked at Obama's presidency from this perspective.
    Yes, we need the spirit of love, and people willing to remind us of our kindest selves, so we can act from that kindness. MLK had moral authority, but he didn't eliminate violence in his time, and his authority was slipping big time at the end.

    I don't understand your logic.... that because Obama didn't eliminate violence he didn't have enough moral authority. He laid a pretty high bar of intelligence, balance and maturity...and morality. That can highlight the immaturity in people, and immature people resort to bullying and violence. Can even the best mother or father eliminate the bullying and emotional violence in their own families? People have to be receptive. I don't believe even MLK could have inspired people who weren't receptive, like congress, had he become president.

    1. The violence that Judy wrote about came about because of cell phone cameras being able to prove---for the first time---what the black community has been saying all along about the uneven treatment they get from rogue police officers. No matter who had been the president, the same civil unrest would have been happening across the country.

  9. I totally agree with this post. Hopefully there is positive change in the next 4 years. It was pretty icy on my drive to work this morning but the temp is going up so the roads should be fine by the time you have to venture out today! Be careful!

  10. Read some comments. Guess I'll sit this one out. -chuckle-

    We see, through our own prism. And there is no changing, the minds, of others.

    I can live with that.

    :-)

  11. I don't agree, Judy. I believe the violence wielded by some police officers started this ball rolling.

    1. Or did it increase when the President stood in front of TV cameras and called the Cambridge, MA police force, "stupid"?
