None of my neighbor's have learning disabilities or a lower than average IQ. They just have no common sense. But then, I have a few people in my family with very high IQ's and they have no common sense either.
Pearl came down today and she said that she is now convinced that Merle has Parkinson's. So they are going to make a doctor's appointment and see. He was at the Neurologist this spring. That specialist did the CAT scan on his brain, looking to see if Merle had a stroke or TIA. Another specialist did two MRI's, from Merle's head to his feet.
Wouldn't they have found signs of Parkinson's?
Pearl said, "I hope they find out that he has it. At least then we'd know. I am so sick of everyone talking about him."
I have a friend with similar attitudes. She works all the time, but stays in debt. My experience is that even if someone helps them get back on track, they go right back to the same behavior that got them there in the first place, and they never seem to know how they got there. Frustrating.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she likes the attention they get at the doctors' offices?
ReplyDeleteCommon sense isn't that common is it.
I hope that you're writing a book as well as posting on this blog!!! Jx
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean; I have a nephew that I love with all my heart - his IQ is off the chart but no common sense, none. Makes me sad, really.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what the symptoms are for Parkinson's and unlike Pearl I hope Merle doesn't have that. :(
xoxo
Who on earth would WISH for Parkinson's? Good grief. Yes, some people do ENJOY ill health as it gives them something to talk about. My Mom was rather like that. She loved having attention. I suppose after six kids it was her turn to get some attention.
ReplyDeleteCommon sense is way more important than IQ in my opinion!
