Today it was 20 degrees--we are expecting a warming trend.
Yesterday it was 10 degrees.  It felt colder today.
Yesterday we had sun and no wind.  Today we had no sun and a breeze, and probably the reason for it to feel worse!

I had to go to Walmart and get some supplies today.  I rarely shop on Sunday--only in an emergency situation---I considered this an emergency.  1 can of cat food left.  No milk for me.  No lunch meat for noontime sandwiches.  1/2 bottle of Diet Pepsi.

No whole milk in Walmart!  How can that be!  The manager said they had a lot of customer's yesterday and must have purchased all the whole milk.

"That seems odd.  There is always racks and racks of it in the cooler behind the front shelves."

"Well, the one percent and the two percent have vitamin D in them, so they are good for you."

"I'm not worrying about the vitamin D," I said.  "I'm concerned with the taste.  Those other ones taste like the milk has been watered down."

He was not sympathetic.

Then I went looking--no typing paper, no greeting card envelopes, no filter for the air cleaner--all I normally buy there and....worse of all?  No Marie Callander frozen cherry pie!!

I was going to go across the street to the Meijer store to get what Walmart was out of, but by the time I got the groceries in the trunk, I was miserably cold.

I should have gone to Meijer to begin with!!

The Climb Cart Karen gave me for Christmas really helps when I get home.  Just 3 trips to get everything in from trunk to kitchen.  Hauling them, 2 bags at a time, would take me 6-7 trips.
I mailed out the genealogy I had finished on Friday and started a new one on Saturday.

Already I have managed to get 9 generations back.  This one is unusual.  This family is pure Dutch.

Usually there is a predominant nationality in a family,  but I have never done one where the nationality on both sides is the same.  There isn't an Englishman, or Irishman, or German in the lot.  At least so far.

This is why I find genealogy so fascinating.
I am trying to get some sort of schedule written down.  I am becoming overwhelmed with the way my house is such a mess.  I can't just get motivated in my mind and figure out what to do and when to do it, I need a list!!

A definite schedule with times and duties.  It probably wouldn't hurt if I got up an hour earlier.  Then spend an hour on FaceBook, then 2 hours on the genealogy, then lunch and Soap and at 2:00, housework.  At this time of year, the sun comes directly in these windows and I can't really see my monitor from 11:00 to 3:00-4:00, so that would give me a 2 hour window to do housework.  Then I can work on the genealogy in the evening--if there isn't a basketball game on, of course.  LOL

We are expecting 2-4" of snow tonight and then warmer temps.  47 degrees on Thursday?  Time to get my shorts and T-shirts out.  HAH!!

We have set records--it has never been this cold for this long a period.  15 days under 20 degrees.  I love winter, but I am soooooooo ready for some above freezing temps.

  1. I am hating this cold weather! I was looking forward to getting out tomorrow for a haircut and lunch but it's snowing. Again! So who knows what the roads will be like by morning.

I drink 2% all the time. Once you get used to it whole milk tastes too sweet. But we all like what we like...aren't we spoiled.

  2. Hi

It's about 35C (95F) here at the moment and I am off to watch a cricket match in Perth Western Australia. The sky is bright blue with not a cloud to be seen. Yesterday in Sydney Australia it was well over 40C (104F) in the stands when we were playing England and over 50C (122F) out on the ground. The English Captain spent the night in hospital probably connected with the heat. I prefer the heat, couldn't manage your temperatures!!

    Warm Regards lol Marie

  3. I must have no taste buds because milk is milk to me, they all taste the same. My husband, on the other hand, refuses to let me buy anything but whole milk he says the others are too watery.
Come South, we're going to be in the 60's this week.

  4. I agree with Jane, don't see much difference in 2% but I understand. As for me, if I don't get things done early, normally I'm a slug after my soap. :)

  5. Sometimes I comment here, and it just doesn't "stay"! Haunted comments?
We used to drink whole milk when we had kids at home; dropped to 2%, then 1%, and now when we actually buy any, it's skim! My husband "can't" drink anything else now, he says! I can drink anything! (Wives aren't as hard to please, it seems to me!)
It has been down to -11, (That was Sunday morning, and we had up to 12 inches of snow, depending on the place in our county.) My husband and I can't think of any winter that the temps went this low in SE VA! Thank heavens no power went out here, nor did we have busted pipes. Oh, but so many did!
I wish we had a Meyer's or anything but Walmart, Food Lion and Farm Fresh! The last one is the best, but more expensive.
Stay safe--- have you been stitching or crocheting?

  6. i am not a milk lover but i agree with you, i want whole milk if i am going to drink it. everything else tastes like watered down milk!!

we too, have had very cold weather and snow, as i'm sure you know. i just stay home, i have plenty to do and lot's of hobbies, like you!! the hubs has been gone, he does all the snow removal on the income properties we own, i didn't see him for days. he has a lot of help but the properties are large commercial properties, so they take a long time.

only thing, next time they predict 2 inches of snow, i'm going food shopping with everyone else. i didn't have any of my special "snow" foods!!!

i so happy you have genealogy clients and yes, the windmill works!!

  7. I don't drink milk but my Greg insists on whole milk and it's good for cooking -- although if I'm baking, I use buttermilk. I love my oats cooked in milk. Don't you just want to spit when Walmart is out of stuff they should have? We encountered that a few days ago too. You just want to say, YOU HAVE THAT ONE JOB ...
