I can remember about high school because..........

High School was wonderful.  I loved every second of it.  I lived 5 miles out in the country.  No kids my age around.  All my friends and all the fun was at my school.  I found out, early on, I think around 6th grade, one day I said something wry and a bit sarcastic and everyone in the room, including the teacher, laughed.  AHA!  I was on a roll for the rest of time.

Daddy wasn't in school to ridicule and criticize.  Nobody at school criticized.

I wasn't a nerd, just an average student.  I wasn't much of an athlete, but I was nice to everyone, I was the "kidder".  Really quite shy and  not too much self esteem, taller than anyone, including most of the boys, gangly, kind of awkward--I found being the happy-go-lucky kidder was my niche.  The kids laughed with me instead of at me.

AND...there was music!  Band and chorus, where I really excelled, the only classes I ever got A's in.  Back then, it was a big deal to be a band member--as big a deal as being one of the football, basketball, baseball stars.

That's probably why I remember those years so well.  I really feel they were the best years of my life!

  2. Really, really wonderful, that you have these wonderful memories of HS!!!!!!!!!!

I had the opposite. So I really appreciate yours.

Very-small-town girl.... Bused to catholic school in nearby city, for 7th and 8th grades..... Everyone knew everyone.... no room for new, shy girl..... Had very unhappy time, 7-8th grades...... I was continued to be bused, to catholic HS,in city..... same thing happened.... everyone knew everyone.... no place for me...... kids would leave lunch tables, when I came in.... no place and no one to spend lunch time with..... Grades 9, 10, 11....... Senior year, 2 long time girl friends "broke up".... I slipped in..... finally had a f***in'* HS FRIEND.....

But having had no school friends, from 7th grade, through 11th grade, was not 'made up for,' by a fun Senior year.

I still remember those nasty, clueless girls, who snubbed me, for so many years.

Plus, home life was with an alcoholic father. Yish...

So, needless to say, my life, after HS grad. in 1954, had no where to go, but UP. ,-) And it did! Not in a never-ending arc. No life does that. But so damn much better, than growing up years.

But I repeat, I am so happy for you, having those lovely memories.

    Gentle hugs, Luna Crone

we had fun in school, we skipped school....we did all the fun stuff you are suppose to do in high school. i too have some great memories and because i still live in the same town, i still see a lot of my classmates!!!

  5. I can't imagine you being shy, but then again not many people believe me when I tell them I was. :)

Especially enjoyed most all the grades, and as a senior we had the decision to go to the same high school or to a new one. We chose the new. It was great. However, my nickname was granny and I was the Chaplain of Senior Girls club. LOL

    It's fun to look back!

    xoxo

  8. Oh dear. I wouldn't go back to that time if you paid me in solid gold bars. I was always the outsider. But that's okay; it didn't hurt me. xoxo
