Giving Thanks

An unusual Thanksgiving dinner at daughter Karen's house.

Unusual in that there were only 9 of us.  This made for what my sister Susan called the "perfect" Thanksgiving and daughter Pam agreed.  "It wasn't so crowded.  I could actually sit and talk to Karen,  without twenty other people wanting her attention."

Usually there is Karen and her Hubs Mark, Helene & Mike and baby, Susanna, Marcus and fiancee', Stephen and girlfriend, Maddie and boyfriend--and that is just the family--then there are Karen's in-laws, a raucous crowd of 8.

Yesterday: Karen and Mark.  Maddie and Stephen.  Susan, Chuck and her son Adam, Pammie and me.

I wasn't even tired from all the noise.  Usually I'm worn out.

They had just finished the fireplace at the "new" end of their living room.  Unlike most late 50 year old empty-nesters, who are ready to downsize, Karen and Mark are enlarging their house.  They are adding family.  A wedding last year and a new baby.  A wedding in June.  Perhaps an other wedding in 2020, which means more people added and more grand babies coming.  Considering this family is nearly ALL together each and every weekend..............they do everything together--even after their kids get married......they need a bigger living room.

  6. Sounds great. We came to our son's large house to have Thanksgiving. With the other MIL living in the suite in the basement, we were a table of 6. Small family, but we don't mind.
David and Kat keep me well entertained> We're going out to eat tonight and tomorrow night. We'll leave, the kids will return to school, son will return to work!
Leaky hot water and damage to I don't know how much floor waiting at our house.

  7. So glad you had a lovely Thanksgiving. Same here.

Did you and Pam drive together, so she could pick you up, and drop you off at home, after dark? It's that drive-home-after-dark that messes with a gathering. We went with son/family next door.

    Onward to December!!! >,-)

  9. The entire day sounds just right up your alley. Noise wears me out also! I had turkey and all the trimmings while watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. Then a nap. And then they family was home with two shopping bags of leftovers! Mmmmmmm

  12. Sounds like the perfect number to me. We had thirteen at one point (though not all day), and I don't like crowds -- even of my own people. And we too need a gathering room three times the size of the one we've got, when everyone is here. Next year we shall have to think of something to do after the big meal. Some sort of activity. Luckily we have a whole year to come up with a plan. Merry Christmas! xoxo
