Everyone is so cranky!

I had to make a run up to Walmart this past Wednesday.  I had a prescription to pick up and had been putting it off for a week.  I only had one pill left for that day, so I got there at 8:55, and was the only one in line, when the pharmacy opened at 9:00am.  I couldn't wait to get outside and let the breeze blow the bad buggies off me.  It felt like a scary "adventure".

When I got home, I wrote about my adventure on Face Book, like I often do and put a humorous tone to my story.

Man!  I got blasted by two friends who criticized me for going out that not only could I spread the virus to others or catch it myself and I was making too light of this pandemic.

Late yesterday afternoon, I found out through Dar that our lawn mowing guy can't come and rake leaves or pick up sticks.  His business is not deemed essential.  I was pondering on FB about that.  Wondering why when he would be outside and me inside and never the twain to meet and at least, I could send him a check that would help him feed his two little kids.

Another friend ripped into me.  Sort of accusing me, "Do you think your lawn work is essential?  Really?"

Gosh.  I don't think that's what I posted.  I was just wondering why it would matter if he worked when he would be outside and me in.

So, after crying a bit from the criticism and scolding I got, I decided to stay off posting anything on FB.

GEEZ!!  Last week my sister told me I was over-reacting and now this women accuse me of making light of a serious situation.

I can't win!

So now "they" are saying we all should wear face masks.  Even though they don't do any good, if you have The Virus it will keep you from contaminating others---it keeps your sneezes and coughs inside the mask.  If  you don't have The Virus, wearing a mask won't keep the bad buggies out.

We have ladies around here sewing masks.  Bless their hearts, but no hospitals will take them.  They have to be made from a double layer of tightly woven pure cotton and they have to be able to be adjusted tightly around the nose part, down low on the chin, or they do absolutely no good.  The poor sewing ladies are trying to help and so far, they are being turned away from care centers.

My sister has some masks left over from when they lived in New York State and went through the SARS scare.  She said she would get one to me.  It appears to be a sturdier than the home made ones.  I might wear one if I have to go get groceries, but....I don't know.  If you keep adjusting the mask, you end up touching your face more and that might contaminate you worse than if you just went without.

I didn't need one yesterday--outside trying to rake my front lawn from the piles of leaves the lawn guy left last fall when he got sick with Lyme Disease.  I have little blue Star Flowers that come up all over my front yard and I wanted to uncover them.

I only got 3/4 of one side of the lawn done.  Finally I figured that I didn't want to take a chance on an AFib attack and have to go to a germ ridden ER, so I sat in my canvas lawn chair, in the sun, and watched the neighbors walk up and down the street, with their canes and walkers.  Dar had her Dad out, pushing him around the block in his wheel chair.

At least I got to see other humans and call "Hi, how ya doing?"  back and forth.
===================
My youngest daughter Jennifer, had to go to ER on Wednesday night as she was having a hard time breathing.  She has asthma and is still recovering from an 18 month stint with Lyme Disease.

They gave her a COVID-19 test, with results coming back in 5 days.  Took an X-ray and EKG, both good and sent her back home to quarantine herself in one room.  She has been working from home and has not traveled anywhere, so I don't know where she may have picked up The Virus, if that's what she has.

That is the real scary thing about this, for me.  People can have it and show no symptoms, but still be contaminating others.  That's why I have stayed away from my grandchildren.  Not that I might give it to them, but they were working and in college until the 3rd week of March, so they could have it, and because they are younger, feel no bad symptoms, but give it to me and then...I'd be dead.

I know darn well, if I had to be hospitalized and it came down to who was going to get a ventilator--a 50 year old or me an 80 year old, I would just be rolled down to the Hospice unit.

  1. I too don't understand why your yard guy can't come and work. We have gardeners all the place working around here. As a matter of fact, I see lots of gardening trucks on the road when I'm out, running errands.

Your FB friends would have a real fit with me! I went out 3x this past week. Terry went out today to pick up lunch at a diner where our church group would have been going for a big church lunch if we weren't shut down due to the COVID-19. He saw a couple of other members there getting lunch. When I called yesterday to place the order, I thought the owner was going to cry. She was so thankful for the business and glad that our group was still getting takeout. We had a really good turkey dinner.

Should I get sick enough for a ventilator, I do not want one. I've lived a very good life, and I know where I am going, so I would gladly let the younger person have the ventilator.

  2. Iam no longer on Facebook, too much discussion. I like Instagram, post an
image and a line, that is enough. Judy, too much going on in our world to be upset over unimportant things. Take care of yourself and stay home unless
absolutely necessary to go out. I am looking into ordering from local store
they bring to car, but so far cannot figure out how it works :)

  3. I'm really hoping they will lift the ban on lawn care businesses because it really is essential for those of us who can't do our own. The only people the lawn care people have to be around are at the gas station and if they use a credit care and hand sanitizers they can reduce the risk.

As for being criticized for picking up your meds, unless any of them are offering to do it for you next time they can just stuff it where the sun doesn't shine. Having said, that the written word can so often misunderstood and maybe those who got on your case were just concerned about you? I've gotten mad about stuff someone wrote, then reread it a few days later and then it didn't seem as bad as I originally thought.

Wearing a mass while not perfect does remind everyone you come in contract with that we need to do our social distancing. And for that reason I'll wear one in the future. Like when a doctor tells you to wear an arm sling in public. A friend is making me one and she found the pattern some place online that makes up to the standards they are looking for. JoAnn fabric was offering curbside service for the supplies.

  4. My lawn guy still comes, and I am so happy about that. Every state is different. I'm in Texas and there's lots of space.
I think people are just scared. We all need to do the best we can and I think for the most part we are.
I'm making masks for my friends and family. They may not help a lot but they can't hurt. My neighbor's sister is a nurse and requested some. Down here in Texas we are giving them away and they are going like hot cakes!

  5. From what I gather, you call the store and place your order; a lot of times lately they don't have what you need though. You pay over the phone and they give you a time for pickup. I guess the same with restaurants that are taking orders.

  7. Well, that person who comments on your Facebook posts doesn't seem to have much nice to say on any of your posts! Then made another snarky comment on your next post!! It's your page, put what you want! I personally would have unfriended her a long time ago but maybe you are nicer than me!

  8. Judy I don't know what is wrong with the folks on Fb, they are cranky! The least little thing and BOOM off they go. In FL lawncare workers are deemed essential and as a matter of fact mine are here right now! That is foolish that they've been deemed NON essential in your state, because there are too many people like myself, that are unable to do that sort of work. As far as getting your medicine, I can't fathom anyone criticizing over that issue. Everyone has an opinion, but... it doesn't mean they have to air it out! You did the right thing and got in and quickly out. Still I understand how you feel about the criticism. Be safe and well Judy.

  9. And you can DELETE any comments from your FB page. I do that a lot. Usually "unfollow" them and a few I have blocked. People can be mean and like Misadventures said, not really mean the words in that way. I am not visiting FB as much any more. So many educated people posting MISinformation. Disgusting!

  10. Our landscapers still come. We don’t get near them or anyone else plus we now have to wear a mask any time we leave our apartment. It’s really hard for me to breath in it. I have the paper one they gave me and a cotton (double) one my daughter made and sent me. I have trouble breathing in both of them. Stay just the way you are Judy - you are wonderful. Bee

  11. our lawn service people are still coming. like you, i figured it was allowed because they are outdoors and if they don't come, the entire state will look unkept. most homeowners, like myself, do not own a law mower!

in new jersey, you can't enter any store with a mask or face covering!!

as for Facebook, i never "write" anything and that's why. i just post pretty pictures and don't say anything else!! chin up, try not to worry about those comments but i do know how you feel!!!
